Peterborough Historical Society Serving the community since 1897 As one of Ontarios oldest historical societies PHS has played a lead role in preserving and promoting Peterboroughs rich social cultural and architectural history. Our goal is to generate wider public awareness of the importance of history to the success and welfare of the community. We seek to engage the public through a number of programs and outreach initiatives that reflect the fascinating complexity and diversity of the communitys past. The society owns and operatesHutchison House Museumlocated in downtown Peterborough which is open yearround and provides windows into the rich social history of the city and region primarily in the nineteenth century.
