History

The organization was established following a significant event in Canadian history. On November 10, 1979, a freight train carrying dangerous chemicals derailed in Mississauga, prompting one of the largest peacetime evacuations at the time. In response to this crisis, a group of volunteers began assisting emergency services, leading to the formation of Respond Search and Rescue.

RESPOND offers a range of services, including:

To become a member, individuals must meet certain requirements, including holding a Class G driver's license, possessing Standard First Aid and CPR C certification, and committing to volunteer 40 hours annually. Membership is open to adults aged 18 years and older.
