Oshki-Giizhig Inc. is a Canadian Indigenous-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing holistic support services for individuals living with complex needs, including those affected by fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and other disorders. Founded with the goal of enhancing the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual wellness of its participants, Oshki-Giizhig operates primarily in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and emphasizes culturally rooted approaches in its programming.

Mission and Vision

The organization’s mission is to walk beside, advocate for, and support Indigenous individuals and families affected by FASD and related challenges. Oshki-Giizhig aims to promote healing and wellness through culturally informed practices, recognizing the importance of Indigenous values and traditional teachings. It focuses on creating safe spaces and fostering environments where clients can rebuild healthy relationships, secure safe housing, manage finances, and navigate justice systems with dignity and respect.

Impact and Community Role

Since its establishment, Oshki-Giizhig has supported over 100 clients with the help of more than 80 employees. The organization has played a pivotal role in breaking cycles of trauma and fostering family reunification. Notably, clients who had previously lost custody of their children to child welfare systems have been empowered, through Oshki-Giizhig’s culturally based support and advocacy, to regain custody and nurture their children within a framework of Indigenous culture and spirituality.

The organization honors the legacy of its co-founder, Grant Duncan, who passed away in 2021. Duncan was celebrated for his dedication to stopping the cycle of FASD and intergenerational trauma, striving to create new cycles of renewal and hope within Indigenous communities.
