PAL Stratford was inspired by a similar initiative in Toronto and was founded in October 1999 by Tom Patterson, the founder of the Stratford Festival, and Herbert Whittaker, Critic Emeritus for the Globe and Mail. They recognized the need to support an aging theatre and arts community, allowing them to continue living in Stratford alongside their colleagues. This effort aligns with the city's legacy as a hub for the arts.

Mission

The charity aims to support those who are fifty-five years or older and have been associated with Canada's professional arts community. PAL Stratford offers housing through a heritage house in the heart of Stratford, which includes five suites for residents.
