Winchester District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
The Winchester District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Winchester District Memorial Hospital. Founded in 1947, it plays a crucial role as a founding partner of the hospital, focused on enhancing patient care through various activities and fundraising efforts.
History
The auxiliary has been operational since 1947, contributing to the establishment and growth of the hospital. The hospital itself was officially opened on December 8, 1948. Over the years, the auxiliary has remained committed to its mission of supporting high-quality patient care.
Activities and Achievements
The auxiliary engages in several key activities, including:
- In Memoriam Fund: Provides a way for individuals to honor loved ones while supporting the hospital.
- Gift Shoppe: Operates a gift shop offering a variety of items, with all proceeds going towards purchasing hospital equipment.
- Social/Special Events and Fundraising: Organizes events to raise funds for hospital equipment.
- Purchase of Medical Equipment: Has purchased numerous pieces of medical equipment to enhance patient care, including wireless IV pumps, ultrasound equipment, lab equipment, vital signs monitors, colonoscopes, defibrillators, anesthetic machines, electric beds, patient lifts, and examination tables.
Leadership and Structure
The auxiliary is led by a leadership team that includes:
- President: Louise Arsenault
- Treasurer: Karen Graham
- Secretary: Kelly Durant
- Directors: Bev Beck, Marion Carkner, Lynn Dillabough, Joan Farlinger, Marie-Claire Ivanski, Elinor Jordan, and Gloria Summers.
This leadership helps set policy and manages various activities to support the hospital, ultimately improving patient care and hospital services.
Mission
The auxiliary's mission is encapsulated in its motto: "Helping patients, staff, and visitors." It remains dedicated to volunteering and supporting the hospital community.
