The organization was established with a committed board of directors, trained instructors, and achieved charitable status, enabling it to develop structured and effective programs for its participants. Its mission centers on empowering the lives of people with disabilities through the healing and rehabilitative benefits of equine therapy, enriching the lives of all participants by promoting physical, cognitive, and emotional wellness.
Programs and Services
SpEqTRA's programs focus on personalized therapeutic riding experiences tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each participant. The therapeutic benefits of riding include improvements in balance, coordination, muscle strength and tone, self-confidence, attention span, independence, and social integration. The organization serves children and adults with a range of disabilities, including mobility challenges, cognitive impairments, visual and hearing impairments, mental health issues, and learning disabilities.
Research supports therapeutic riding’s positive impact in rehabilitation following strokes, head injuries, traumatic brain damage, and in mental health treatment through human-animal bonding. The horse’s rhythmical, multidimensional movements facilitate physical and emotional changes that contribute to participants’ progress.
SpEqTRA emphasizes individual achievements and encourages clients to reach new personal goals in a joyful, supportive environment.
Impact
The organization is recognized for making a significant difference in the lives of individuals with special needs in its region. Testimonials from clients highlight the empowerment and pride gained through riding, exemplified by participants with cerebral palsy and other disabilities who credit the program for increased courage and self-esteem.
SpEqTRA also aligns with ongoing international research initiatives that advance therapeutic riding practices, ensuring its programs remain evidence-based and effective.
