The Japanese Triplexes were built to replace two four-unit "fishermen's shacks" that were smaller and narrower and were completed in 1964 and 1965, designed by Bill Ross. Initially they housed European Canadian families other than the 6th unit that housed Teo and May Okabe and their families. After 1967, the residents of units 4-6 were Robert and Fumiko Nishimura, Katsuki and Misao Kadowaki and Frank and Yoshiko Yoshida.
