THE CAPITAL REGION PROSTATE CENTRE
Overview
The Capital Region Prostate Centre is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families dealing with prostate cancer. It operates under the same charitable registration as the Island Prostate Centre, with a CRA registration number of 866658230RR0001.
Mission and Programs
The centre focuses on improving public awareness of prostate cancer, supporting clinical trials, and promoting prostate research through publications, donations, and fundraising events. Additionally, it provides community-based support and resources to help survivors of prostate cancer navigate post-treatment challenges, which can include isolation, depression, low physical activity, and decreased sexual desire and functioning.
Services and Impact
The centre provides support services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for survivors and their families. These services include community-based counseling and web-based technologies designed to address post-treatment challenges. Prostate cancer has a high survival rate when detected and treated early, with up to a 90% survival rate. However, many survivors face significant lifestyle adjustments post-treatment, and the centre aims to mitigate these effects through its programs.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
The centre engages with the community through various initiatives, emphasizing education, support, and awareness. By fostering partnerships within the healthcare and community sectors, it works towards improving outcomes for those dealing with prostate cancer.
Funding and Recognition
As a registered charity, the Capital Region Prostate Centre relies on donations and fundraising events to support its activities. The organization is recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a legitimate charitable entity, allowing donors to claim tax credits for their contributions.
