Noor Cultural Centre
The Noor Cultural Centre is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to Islamic practice, learning, and the celebration of Islamic culture. It aims to provide a platform for social and environmental justice while respecting and celebrating the diversity of peoples and religions as guided by the Qur’an [1][4][5].
History and Former Location
The centre was previously located in the Don Mills neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario, at a building originally designed and built in 1963 as the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre by Moriyama Teshima Architects. The building was later purchased by the Lakhani family in 2001 and redesigned in 2003 to become the Noor Cultural Centre[2][3]. In October 2021, the physical location was sold due to the prolonged COVID-19 lockdowns, and all activities were transitioned to virtual platforms[1][2].
Mission and Activities
Noor Cultural Centre seeks to become a leading centre for Islamic learning and the celebration of Islamic culture, reflecting the identity of Canadian Muslims. It emphasizes the importance of social and environmental justice and operates with a focus on respecting diverse communities as directed by the Qur’an[4][5].
Registration Details
The organization is registered with the Business Registration Number 880860713RR0001. Despite the sale of its physical location, the centre continues to operate virtually, maintaining its mission to promote Islamic culture and values in a diverse and inclusive manner[1][4].
