Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington

The Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services and support to communities across North and Centre Wellington. Originally known as the Centre Wellington Advisory Group, the organization has evolved over the years to address the changing needs of its constituents.

History

Established with the goal of identifying gaps in rural services, the Centre began by assessing community needs in conjunction with local groups and government agencies. Over time, it has undergone several name changes as it adapted to these evolving needs. A milestone in its development was in 1986 when it hired its first staff member to initiate service provision for families, children, and seniors.

Programs and Services

The Centre offers a variety of programs aimed at filling gaps in community services:

  • EarlyON Child & Family Centre: Provides interactive environments for children aged 0 to 6 and their families. These centres offer play-based programs, support from Registered Early Childhood Educators, and opportunities for social connections.

  • Child Care: Operates licensed childcare centers providing safe and nurturing environments for toddlers, preschool, kindergarten, and school-aged children. These centers are led by qualified educators.

  • Outreach & Support Services: Delivers emergency financial assistance, school supplies, recreation programs for youth, and free income tax preparation. These services are tailored to support individuals and families facing challenging circumstances.

  • Transportation: Facilitates access to essential appointments through a network of volunteer drivers.

Vision and Mission

The Centre's mission is to foster a community environment where every member can succeed. It strives to achieve this by promoting self-sufficiency and championing values of respect, integrity, and cooperation.

Governance

The organization's leadership includes a Board of Directors composed of local community members who oversee strategic development and implementation of its programs.

Impact

Throughout its history, the Community Resource Centre has played a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in North and Centre Wellington. It continues to advocate for initiatives such as a guaranteed basic annual income, seeing it as a crucial tool in addressing poverty. The Centre's adaptability and commitment to community service have made it a vital part of the local social fabric.
