Essex Christian Reformed Church
The Essex Christian Reformed Church is a Christian Reformed congregation located in Essex, Ontario. Established in 1939, the church is a registered Canadian charity (Business No. 118857051RR0001) and operates under the denomination’s mission to foster spiritual growth and community engagement.
History and Structure
Organized in 1939, the church has been served by multiple ministers throughout its history, including Steven Vandyk (2020–2024) and Frederick F. Heslinga (2002–2011). As of 2024, it reports a membership of 126 individuals and an approximate weekly attendance of 45. The congregation is affiliated with Classis Ontario Southwest, a regional assembly of the Christian Reformed Church in North America.
Mission and Activities
The church’s mission statement emphasizes being “a healthy church at work,” focusing on three pillars: reaching up in worship, inward for discipleship, and outward with Christ’s love. Its ministries include GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) for girls, Cadets for boys, and youth programming. Worship services are held weekly, with additional community-oriented initiatives supported through donations managed via e-transfer, the Bridge App, or traditional methods.
