Markham Peoples Community Church

Markham Peoples Community Church (MPCC) is a Canadian nonprofit organization that functions as a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church. MPCC was originally launched in April 2000 with its first Sunday worship service at the Chinese Cultural Centre Of Greater Toronto in Scarborough. Initially, it was part of the Free Methodist Church in Canada and was known as Malvern Chinese Free Methodist Church[2]. Over time, recognizing the influx of new immigrants, the church collaborated with settlement and healthcare agencies to provide support. It established various ministries, including senior fellowship, adult fellowship, and children & youth ministries[2].

In 2001, the church acquired a commercial property, which was later rezoned as a place of worship. The location facilitated its growth, leading to a name change to Markham Free Methodist Church in 2013[2]. In 2012, the church expanded its Children's Ministry, creating programs like a Summer Camp, Kid's Club & Band, and Children's Arts & Crafts activities. This focus on youth was complemented by the construction of the Markham Wesley Centre, aimed at serving the broader community[2].

Developments and Current Status

In August 2018, the church completed a significant building expansion, increasing its capacity to accommodate up to 750 worshippers in the main worship hall and an additional 160 in the chapel. This period also marked its transition to a non-denominational church, culminating in its current identity as Markham Peoples Community Church[2].
