Mississauga Arts Council

The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering and promoting the arts in Mississauga, Ontario. Established in 1981, MAC operates under the Business Registration Number 131275711RR0001. It is a registered charity that has been instrumental in developing a vibrant arts community across the city.

Mission and Vision

MAC's mission is to empower the arts economy by creating opportunities and capacity, connecting artists with audiences and each other, and celebrating artists' achievements. Its vision is to promote a thriving arts economy in Mississauga, emphasizing collaboration and community growth.

Objectives and Activities

MAC focuses on three main operational concepts:

  • CREATE: Encourages the development of artistic talents by providing opportunities for employment, public exposure, and experience. This includes assistance with grants, sponsorships, and project development.
  • CONNECT: Facilitates innovative partnerships and networking events that connect artists with new audiences, businesses, and funders.
  • CELEBRATE: Recognizes and rewards artistic excellence, notably through the Mississauga Arts Awards, which promote public awareness and participation in the arts.
Impact and Initiatives

Since its inception, MAC has been pivotal in supporting local artists, especially during challenging times such as the pandemic. It has provided essential financial support through microgrants, helping to sustain the city's cultural life. Additionally, MAC engages in diverse projects that include community art installations, like the mural painting projects that employ artists and contribute to the city's aesthetic.

By fostering a dynamic arts scene, MAC contributes to enriching the lives of Mississauga's citizens and challenging traditional perceptions of suburban arts communities. Its efforts have helped establish Mississauga as a burgeoning cultural hub within the Canadian arts landscape.
