Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre
Overview
The Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre (UCRDC) is a Canadian nonprofit organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting the history, culture, and contributions of Ukrainians worldwide. The Centre functions as a comprehensive resource hub, housing an extensive archive, library, oral histories (in audio and video formats), photographs, memoirs, and personal archives.
Objectives
- Promotion of Ukrainian Studies: The UCRDC aims to foster interest in the study and research of Ukrainian history and the experiences of Ukrainian Canadians.
- Collection and Preservation: It focuses on collecting, assembling, cataloguing, and preserving documents, books, articles, films, and other materials related to the history of Ukrainians globally.
- Community Engagement: The Centre produces documentary films, prepares educational materials, and sponsors conferences, lectures, and exhibits on topics of interest to Ukrainians worldwide.
Activities
The UCRDC has produced notable documentary films such as Between Hitler and Stalin: Ukraine in World War II The Untold Story, which examines Ukraine's role during World War II and the struggle for independence. This film highlights the active efforts by Ukrainians to protect their people from both Nazi and Soviet forces while striving for national independence.
History and Evolution
Initially, the UCRDC's work was deeply influenced by the tragedy of the Holodomor, a devastating famine-genocide in Ukraine. Over time, the Centre has expanded its scope to explore various aspects of Ukrainian history and culture. It continues to evolve by engaging in filmmaking, archival development, and publications to ensure the voices of Ukrainians are heard internationally.
Funding and Support
As a non-profit organisation, the UCRDC relies on community support through fundraising activities and donations. It is supported by various foundations and individuals who share its mission of preserving Ukrainian heritage.
Registration
The UCRDC is registered with the business registration number 137786935RR0001.
