Campbellton Pastoral Charge

Overview

The Campbellton Pastoral Charge is a nonprofit organization affiliated with The United Church of Canada. It operates within the Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters Regional Council, providing spiritual leadership and community services in the area.

History

The Campbellton Pastoral Charge has undergone several changes over the years. Initially, it was part of a larger unit known as the Campbellton-Escuminac Pastoral Charge, which was formed by the merger of the Campbellton Pastoral Charge and Escuminac Pastoral Charge in January 2004. This larger unit included both First United Church in Campbellton, New Brunswick, and Escuminac United Church in Quebec. However, in December 2016, the congregation of Escuminac United Church decided to leave the Campbellton-Escuminac Pastoral Charge and subsequently merged with St. Andrew's United Church in Tide Head as part of the Restigouche Pastoral Charge, effective October 22, 2017. This led to the decommissioning of Escuminac United Church on the same date. Following these changes, the Campbellton-Escuminac Pastoral Charge was renamed to simply the Campbellton Pastoral Charge.

Operations

The Campbellton Pastoral Charge is primarily associated with Faith United Church in Campbellton, where it offers regular worship services and other community-focused activities. As an integral part of The United Church of Canada, it aligns with broader denominational goals while serving local needs.

Governance and Structure

After January 1, 2019, structural changes within The United Church of Canada resulted in the elimination of all Presbyteries. Consequently, the Campbellton Pastoral Charge became part of the Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters Regional Council. This shift reflects the church's efforts to streamline its governance and better serve its diverse communities.

Records and Archives

The organization maintains various records, including baptism, marriage, and burial documents, membership records, minutes, reports, legal and property documents, correspondence, orders of service, photographs, memorial books, and guest books. These resources provide valuable insights into the history and activities of the pastoral charge.
