Sechelt Groves Society
The Sechelt Groves Society is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental protection and trail development. Formed in 2011, the society was established to take over responsibilities from the Sandy Hook Community Association and to pursue charitable status for fundraising purposes.
Objectives and Achievements
The Sechelt Groves Society focuses on creating and maintaining walking and accessibility trails within a registered Provincial recreation area, under agreement with the Province of British Columbia. One of its notable achievements is the completion of the 2.6 km Gray Creek Trail, which was opened after four years of development.
Funding and Community Involvement
As a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the society has secured significant funding from donors, including both monetary and in-kind contributions. Community involvement is crucial to its success, as it impacts the organization's ability to obtain grants and other forms of support.
Governance and Structure
The society operates under a board of directors, which oversees its operations and works towards maintaining its charitable status. Its activities are aligned with broader environmental protection goals, contributing to the preservation of natural areas in British Columbia.
Charity Status and Impact
Registered with both provincial and federal authorities, the Sechelt Groves Society complies with all relevant charity regulations, ensuring transparency and accountability in its fundraising efforts. This status allows it to issue tax receipts for donations over a certain threshold, supporting its operations and projects.
