Londesborough United Church
Introduction
Londesborough United Church is a vibrant community-focused church located in the village of Londesborough, Ontario. It serves as a place of worship, fellowship, and community engagement under the umbrella of the United Church of Canada.
History
The church traces its roots back to the Methodist era, when the land for the first Methodist church was deeded on April 30, 1860. The original frame church served the Methodist congregation for 38 years until it was replaced by the current building in 1898. The new church was dedicated on November 24, 1898, at a total cost of $5,500[2]. In 1925, with the merger of Methodist and some Presbyterian churches, Londesborough Methodist became part of the United Church of Canada. Later, Knox Presbyterian Church also joined the union in 1932[2].
Facilities and Accessibility
The church building has undergone renovations to enhance accessibility, including the addition of a ramp and automatic doors. A major expansion and renovation occurred in 2004, which included kitchen and bathroom remodeling, as well as the addition of offices[2]. The church is fully accessible and offers facilities such as a large basement and a children’s nursery, making it an ideal venue for community rentals.
