The Realistic Success Recovery Society
Overview
The Realistic Success Recovery Society is a non-profit charitable organization, registered under the Business Number 850757386RR0001. It operates in Surrey, British Columbia, with a mission to provide high-quality, ethical, long-term addiction recovery services for men.
History and Founding
Established in 2007, the society was founded to address the growing need for well-run, ethical recovery homes for men seeking recovery from addiction, abuse, and homelessness. It includes the late Gary Robinson among its cofounders.
Mission and Services
The society's mission is to provide a safe, supportive, structured, and supervised environment that facilitates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual recovery. It offers a comprehensive psychosocial treatment program with ten components:
- Recovery Works Outreach
- Onsite Non-Medical Detox
- Professional Addiction Counselling
- Educating Life Skills
- Guided 12-Step Study Groups
- Restorative Health
- Rehabilitation through Recreation
- Cultural or Spiritual Exploration
- Community Engagement
- Second Stage Supportive Recovery
These services are designed to help residents transition into a drug- and alcohol-free way of life, often for the first time as adults. The organization emphasizes the importance of community in recovery, believing that it does not happen alone.
Operations
The Realistic Success Recovery Society operates four residential recovery homes known as the Trilogy Houses, which are registered by the BC Ministry of Health’s Assisted Living Registry. Residents are not charged user or administrative fees; instead, costs are covered by donations, grants, and provincial government support. The society encourages residents to participate in the program for at least 12 months to ensure they have sufficient time to undergo significant personal changes, rebuild relationships, and develop the support networks necessary for a clean and sober independent life.
Impact
The organization plays a significant role in addressing addiction issues by providing a structured and supportive environment. This approach helps mitigate the broader societal impacts of alcoholism and drug addiction, which are evident in health and welfare systems, on the streets, in schools, and in homes. By focusing on recovery within a community context, the society contributes to healing individuals and families while promoting overall societal wellness.
