Valley Congregational Christian Church in Canada

The Valley Congregational Christian Church in Canada is a religious nonprofit organization based in Oliver, British Columbia. It is part of The Congregational Christian Churches of Canada, aligning with their stance that Jesus is the Head of the Church and operating autonomously with each church deciding its own missions.

History

The church's history began in September 1990 when a group of local Christians sought to belong to a more Bible-based denomination. Initially, this group consisted of thirty members who met over several weeks to research and pray. They ultimately decided to align with The Congregational Christian Churches of Canada due to its autonomous nature and strong foundation in biblical teachings. The first pastor was Rev. Ian Munro, who began serving in November 1990.

In the early years, the congregation worshiped at various locations, including community centers, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and the Legion Hall in Oliver and Osoyoos. In 1992, the church acquired property on Black Sage Road and erected a large lighted cross, which remains a prominent feature. Two years later, the church building was constructed largely through volunteer labor.

One notable aspect of the church's fundraising efforts was the annual sale of pies at Walton's Mountain Campsite in Osoyoos. This initiative, led by members with heart conditions known as the "Heart Brigade," contributed significantly to the church's mortgage fund.

The church's mission is to provide a welcoming space where members can connect with Jesus and engage in a caring, serving community. It offers various services such as weekly worship, funerals, weddings, baptisms, and Bible study gatherings. The organization also holds weekly worship team meetings and monthly leadership team meetings to foster community involvement and spiritual growth.

Located in the scenic region between Oliver and Osoyoos, the church is situated in a unique vineyard setting. This location enhances the church's role as a peaceful and socially connected community hub within the area.
