CIP/ICU Planning Student Trust Fund (CIP-PSTF)
The CIP/ICU Planning Student Trust Fund (CIP-PSTF) is a national charity established within the Canadian planning profession. It was created by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) in 1989 to support the advancement of professional planning in Canada.
History
CIP-PSTF was incorporated as a separate entity under the Canada Corporations Act and received charitable status in 1990. This status allows it to operate as a distinct organization while maintaining close ties with CIP. The fund is registered under Business Registration Number 889709499RR0001.
Purpose
CIP-PSTF provides financial assistance through scholarships and bursaries to students enrolled in accredited Canadian planning programs. These programs are accredited by the Professional Standards Board for the Planning Profession in Canada (PSB) and l’Ordre des urbanistes du Québec (OUQ). The purpose of the scholarships is to recognize student projects that demonstrate excellence and potential contributions to the planning profession or service to community groups.
Funding and Support
The sustainability of the CIP-PSTF is dependent on public donations and corporate sponsorships. Donations are tax-deductible, contributing directly to students as CIP covers administrative expenses through in-kind support.
Programs and Initiatives
CIP-PSTF offers annual scholarships and bursaries to eligible students. Bursaries are intended for students requiring financial assistance to pursue their studies. Scholarship recipients also become eligible for the Ages Foundation Travel Awards program, which allows them to attend the CIP’s annual national planning conference without cost.
Impact
Since its inception, CIP-PSTF has awarded over 150 scholarships and bursaries, totaling more than $500,000. This financial support plays a crucial role in fostering talent within the Canadian planning community.
