Grace Presbyterian Church of Calgary, Alberta
Overview

The Grace Presbyterian Church of Calgary is a historic Presbyterian church located in Calgary, Alberta. It has been a cornerstone of the community since its inception in 1905, the same year Alberta became a province in Canada[1][3].

History

The congregation initially began as a suburban church and moved into its current building in 1913[1][3]. The church was constructed between 1912 and 1913 under the architectural guidance of F.J. Lawson[5]. Over the years, it has grown significantly and remains a prominent place of worship and community service.

Facilities

Grace Presbyterian Church boasts a beautiful historic Sanctuary that houses a notable Casavant 4-manual organ, which is the third largest in Calgary. This organ is crucial in fostering a deep sense of reverence and community among its members[1]. Additionally, the church includes a smaller Chapel, added in 1962, which is equipped with a pipe organ and provides a more intimate setting for worship, seating about 75 people[1].

Community Involvement

The church is deeply involved in community service and provides significant opportunities for growth and outreach, particularly in addressing inner city needs[1]. It has a long-standing partnership with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, further enhancing its role in the cultural and spiritual life of Calgary[1].

Historical Commemoration

For its centennial in 2005, the church created a Hall of History and published a comprehensive 500-page book titled "A Century of Grace," documenting the history of the congregation and the lives of its members[1]. This serves as a testament to the dedication and vision of its community.

Legacy

Today, Grace Presbyterian Church continues to serve as a vital part of Calgary's religious and cultural landscape, with its members maintaining a strong commitment to their faith and community[1][2].
