London Goodenough Association of Canada

The London Goodenough Association of Canada (LGAC) is a non-profit alumni organisation dedicated to supporting Canadian graduate students pursuing studies in London, United Kingdom. The association comprises Canadians who have resided at Goodenough College, a prominent residential institution for international graduate students in London.

History and Purpose

Established with the mission of fostering academic excellence and community engagement among Canadian students abroad, the LGAC has been active for over 20 years. Its primary focus is the administration of a Scholarship Programme designed to assist Canadian graduate students with the cost of accommodation at Goodenough College.

Scholarship Programme

The LGAC Scholarship Programme is highly competitive and awards several scholarships annually. These awards are valued up to £7,500 each, with some special scholarships like the Jackman Foundation Scholarship offering higher amounts, such as £10,000. The selection process emphasizes academic merit as well as the potential for winners to contribute to the extracurricular life at Goodenough College.

Scholarship recipients are required to reside at Goodenough College for at least eight months, although some flexibility is offered for those engaged in thesis research, allowing up to two awards for a minimum residency of six months. All scholarships are awarded for a maximum term of one year and are not renewable.

Membership and Activities

The LGAC invites past residents of Goodenough College, including those from London House and William Goodenough House, as well as academic visitors who have stayed at the Goodenough Club, to become members. Membership benefits include invitations to social events, a semi-annual newsletter, and opportunities to participate in various activities, which range from fundraising initiatives to scholarship management.

Registration Details

The London Goodenough Association of Canada is registered as a non-profit organisation under the Business Registration Number 891107146RR0001.
