Over the years, the building was expanded, and regular services were conducted by clergy from the cathedral and divinity students.

By the early 20th century, the need for a larger facility became apparent. Under the leadership of Canon Cowie, the congregation began planning for a new church. Construction commenced in earnest in 1921, with the cornerstone laid on June 21 of that year. The new church was opened on December 12, 1923.
