New Brunswick International Sculpture Symposium Inc.
Overview

The New Brunswick International Sculpture Symposium Inc., with the business registration number 813341716RR0001, is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public art in New Brunswick. It is recognized as a registered charity by the Canada Revenue Agency.

Mission and Goals

The organization's primary mission is to connect communities across southern New Brunswick through the creation of affordable public art. It aims to provide a platform where communities can engage with and appreciate sculpture as a form of public art, enriching their cultural landscape.

Sculpture Saint John

One of the organization's key projects is Sculpture Saint John, an international sculpture symposium that has been held in Saint John, New Brunswick. The event was first introduced in 2012 and has since become a biennial occurrence. Notable events took place in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, with the final event held in 2022.

During the symposium, prominent sculptors from around the world gather on the Saint John waterfront, transforming large granite monoliths into polished works of art over six weeks. These sculptures are then permanently installed in various communities across New Brunswick, creating a vibrant Sculpture Trail.

Impact

By bringing international artists to the region, the New Brunswick International Sculpture Symposium has not only added to the province's cultural heritage but has also contributed to making New Brunswick a part of the global movement in promoting sculpture as public art.

As of the last symposium in 2022, the organization had created a legacy of over 30 sculptures permanently displayed throughout New Brunswick, with an aim to continue increasing this number in future years. This effort has enhanced community engagement and appreciation for public art in the region.
