Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church

Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church is a Canadian nonprofit religious organization based in Richmond, British Columbia. It is a Christian congregation affiliated with the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. The church is devoted to following Jesus Christ and sharing His love through worship, discipleship, and community engagement.

History

The church was established in the mid-20th century to accommodate the growing Mennonite Brethren community in Vancouver and the surrounding areas. Migration to Vancouver in the 1940s and 1950s led to overcrowding at the Vancouver Mennonite Brethren Church, prompting a group of 238 people to purchase land for a new congregation. The official dedication of Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church took place in November 1954, with the first organizational meeting held in January 1955. The congregation joined the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches later that year.

David Vogt and John Neufeld served as the church's first leaders, and Peter R. Toews was called as the first pastor in 1955. Over subsequent decades, the church experienced significant growth, prompting expansions in 1960 and renovations in 1967-1968. Due to continued growth, the church supported the establishment of new congregations, including Killarney Park Mennonite Brethren Church in 1961 and Richmond Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church in 1971.

In 1977, construction began on a new sanctuary in Richmond, south of the Fraser River, which was dedicated in May 1979. The church continues to serve as a vibrant faith community in the region.

Mission and Activities

Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church is committed to making disciples of all nations, baptizing believers, and teaching adherence to Christian teachings. The church fosters a welcoming atmosphere, encouraging people from all walks of life to join in their journey of faith.

The church offers weekly Sunday worship services, Sunday school programs for children, and various ministry activities aimed at spiritual growth and community connection. It emphasizes prayer, fellowship, and service as central components of its mission.

Affiliations

Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church is a member of the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, connecting it to a wider network of Mennonite Brethren congregations across the province and Canada.
