Due to the large geographical area, the decision was made to divide the community into two separate congregations: East Puslinch and West Puslinch. The East Puslinch group eventually established what is known today as Duff's Presbyterian Church. The church's name honors Rev. Dr. Alexander Duff, a pioneer missionary of the Free Church of Scotland to Calcutta, India, who visited Canada in 1854. The church building was officially opened for worship in 1854, following its construction on land acquired from John Haist.
