Quinte SailAbility Development Training

It offers programs that cater to people of all ages and abilities, aiming to make sailing therapeutic, affordable, and accessible.
History
Founded in 2001, Quinte SailAbility initially operated out of the CFB Trenton Yacht Club until 2018. In 2020, the organization relocated to the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club in Belleville, Ontario. Today, it is one of the largest sailing schools for people with disabilities in Ontario, offering a range of programs tailored to individual needs.
Mission
The organization's mission is to eliminate barriers to sailing through the use of adaptive technology. This includes modifications like sip-and-puff systems, allowing individuals with severe mobility impairments to independently control specially designed boats, such as the Martin 16. Quinte SailAbility focuses on providing therapeutic benefits, freedom, and enjoyment on the water for its participants.
Programs
Quinte SailAbility's programs are based on the Sail Canada CANSail curriculum, led by certified instructors. These programs include:
- Recreational Sailing: Participants can enjoy sailing at their own pace, focusing on pleasure and therapeutic benefits.
- Advanced Training: Emphasizes racing tactics and advanced boat handling for those interested in competitive sailing.
Structure and Operations
The organization is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, with additional volunteers supporting daily operations. It offers a volunteer discount on fees for participants who contribute to fundraising events.
Registration and Recognition
Quinte SailAbility is registered as a charitable organization with the Business Registration Number 866753312RR0001. It falls under the category of complementary or alternative health care, contributing to community benefit.
