TORONTO SUMMER MUSIC FOUNDATION - LA FONDATION DE MUSIQUE D'ETE DE TORONTO
The spell-binding Yiddish music ensemble, Schmaltz & Pepper returns to TSM for the 20th Anniversary Festival, playing klezmer inspired by jazz, Roma, classical, and European folk music. This powerhouse group’s members include acclaimed Toronto Symphony principal clarinetist Eric Abramovitz, a passionate and gifted klezmer musician, and Grammy-nominated Drew Jurecka on violin/accordion/mandolin. Joined by JUNO-winning pianist Jeremy Ledbetter, award-winning bassist Michael Herring, and renowned Payadora violinist/vocalist Rebekah Wolkstein, they produce and perform original arrangements of klezmer and Yiddish music, displaying their joyous and virtuosic genre-bending fusion of many musical styles.

Introducing our Mainstage Artists: soprano Melody Courage. "Métis soprano Melody Courage gained attention as The Native Girl “… played with ethereal grace…” in the 2017 world premiere of Marie Clements and Brian Current’s opera Missing, coproduced by City Opera Vancouver and Pacific Opera Victoria. This season’s highlights for Melody feature the role of The Rose in The Little Prince with Pacific Opera Victoria, and a return to Vancouver Bach Choir as the soprano soloist in Britten’s War Requiem, as well as Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Victoria Philharmonic Choir.
