Tyrconnell Heritage Society
The Tyrconnell Heritage Society is a Canadian nonprofit organization (Business Registration Number 892297136RR0001) dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Talbot Settlement in Ontario. Established to manage the Backus-Page House Museum, the society focuses on conserving the 1850s Georgian-style house and interpreting 19th-century rural life in the region.

History
The society operates within the grounds of John E. Pearce Provincial Park, managing the Backus-Page House, a brick home originally built in 1850 by Robert Morris for Andrew and Mary Jane Backus. The property was part of the Talbot Settlement, land distributed by Colonel Thomas Talbot to settlers like Mary Storey, who transferred her 1809 land grant to her grandson Andrew Backus. The house remained in the Backus family until ownership passed to Jonas Page in 1925, with the Page family residing there for over four decades before the property became a museum.

Activities and Preservation
The society restores and maintains the house to reflect its 1850s appearance, emphasizing historical accuracy in architecture and interior design. Artifacts and exhibits demonstrate domestic life, agricultural practices, and community traditions of the era. Key events include heritage festivals, reenactments such as "The Road to Culloden" (a historical reenactment of 18th-century Scottish conflicts), and educational programs that explore Victorian-era customs like cooking, bathing, and farming techniques. Seasonal activities, including Victorian Christmas celebrations, further engage visitors in the site’s historical narrative.

Location and Significance
Situated near Wallacetown, Ontario, the museum occupies part of the original Talbot Settlement, a region critical to early 19th-century immigration and agricultural development in Upper Canada. The society highlights the area’s Carolinian forest ecosystem and its historical role in supplying lumber for construction during the settlement period.
