Lawrence Park Community Church

Lawrence Park Community Church (LPCC) is a Canadian nonprofit religious organization and a congregation of the United Church of Canada located in North Toronto. It functions as an affirming church, openly welcoming individuals of all genders, sexualities, races, and abilities, with a particular emphasis on inclusivity toward the LGBTQ+ community[2][4].

History and Affiliation

LPCC is part of the United Church of Canada, one of the country's largest Protestant denominations. The church operates both in-person and online, serving a broad community across Toronto with a variety of spiritual, worship, and community services[2][4].

Beliefs and Inclusivity

The church describes itself as affirming, meaning it is committed to welcoming and embracing all people as they are, including queer and Two-Spirit individuals. This inclusive stance is reflected in its ministry and worship leadership roles, which include ministers of all genders and sexual orientations[2][5].

Worship and Music

Services are held weekly on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and typically last about an hour and ten minutes. The lead minister is Rev. Stephen Milton, supported by a Young Adults Minister, Rev. Roberta Howey. Worship services are notable for their strong musical component, featuring a large choir of around thirty singers, including soloists. The music program is diverse, blending traditional and contemporary Christian music along with secular influences, overseen by Music Director Dr. Daniel Rubinoff, an accomplished organist, saxophonist, and jazz pianist[2][5].

LPCC is also home to significant musical instruments, including the Florence Grand Caval Organ—renowned as one of the best in the city—and a grand piano, which together enhance the worship experience and broader community events[5].

Community Engagement and Programs

Beyond Sunday services, the church offers various community programs, including Sunday School for children, spiritual care, book clubs, prayer services, meditation groups, and support groups. These programs reflect LPCC’s commitment to fostering holistic well-being—addressing mind, body, and soul—for its congregation and the wider community[2][4][5].

Online Presence

LPCC streams its services live on Zoom and uploads recordings to its YouTube channel, allowing broader accessibility and engagement beyond the physical church location. The church actively encourages newcomers to connect online or in person and participate in its diverse activities[1][3].

Registration

The church is registered as a nonprofit organization in Canada with the business registration number 107604001RR0001.

Lawrence Park Community Church exemplifies a progressive Christian congregation that combines tradition with inclusivity, music, and community outreach within the framework of the United Church of Canada.

LAWRENCE PARK COMMUNITY CHURCH

Today is the feast day of the 12th century mystic Hildegard von Bingen. She was an extraordinary woman at a time when people didn't expect much form women in public life. She had experienced a series of mystical visions since childhood, which she spent her life trying to understand and share, through writings, poetry, art, public lectures ( unheard of for a woman at that time), and music.
