Second Kicks
Second Kicks is a Canadian non-profit charitable sports organization dedicated to collecting and distributing used soccer uniforms and equipment to economically disadvantaged communities in Canada and around the world. Founded in 2004, the organization aims to support both local and international communities by providing essential soccer equipment.
Mission
The mission of Second Kicks is to help communities express their love for soccer by providing resources that might otherwise be unaffordable. They collect gently used soccer gear from various sources, particularly from the Toronto area, and compile these donations into comprehensive packages known as βgames in a box,β which include uniforms, boots, and balls. These packages are then shipped to communities that need them most, both domestically and internationally.
Impact
Since its inception, Second Kicks has made a significant impact by distributing over 10,000 uniforms to hundreds of teams worldwide. Their efforts have reached communities in more than a dozen countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Botswana, and Nepal, as well as communities in Canada's far north. This initiative not only supports the sport but also provides young people with an opportunity to engage in community service by participating in equipment sorting and donation drives.
Operations
Second Kicks operates at a grassroots level and collaborates with established non-profit organizations to identify suitable communities for equipment distribution. The organization relies on financial donations to cover shipping costs, which are essential for delivering the uniforms and equipment to recipient communities.
Legal Status
Second Kicks is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), holding the business registration number 861754364RR0001. This designation allows the organization to issue tax receipts for financial donations, which helps support its operations and further its mission.
