Quinte Vitality and Social Support
Quinte Vitality and Social Support (QVSS) is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established originally in the 1950s by a group of committed parents advocating for inclusion, the organization has evolved into a community-centered provider of adult day support programs based in Belleville, Ontario.
History
The roots of QVSS trace back to the 1950s when parents of children with physical and developmental disabilities united with a shared vision that their children should be included and valued members of their communities. Initially operating under the name ARC Industries and later Quinte Vocational Support Services, the organization was formally incorporated as a non-profit in 1989. It attained charitable status in Ontario in 1993, reflecting its commitment to serving individuals with developmental challenges. The organization eventually adopted its current name, Quinte Vitality and Social Support, to better reflect its mission and services.
