The Community Arts Council of Prince George and District
The Community Arts Council of Prince George and District (CAC) is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts and culture within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, British Columbia. Established in 1968, the CAC has served as a central hub for local artists, performers, and arts organizations for over five decades, providing diverse programming, advocacy, and community services to foster a vibrant artistic community.
History and Mission
Founded in response to a growing need to enhance and expand the reputation of artistic endeavors in the Prince George area, the Community Arts Council has been integral to the cultural fabric of the region since its inception. The organization’s mission centers on elevating the arts through accessible events, programs, and services that engage residents of all ages and backgrounds, contributing to the wellness and cultural vitality of the community.
Membership and Community Role
The CAC functions as an umbrella organization with approximately 245 members, including professional and emerging artists, performers, ensembles, artisan guilds, and cultural groups. These members represent a wide geographic area covering more than 51,000 square kilometers. The council fosters collaboration and innovation, promoting open-mindedness and ingenuity through its support of local arts initiatives and partnerships.
Facilities and Programs
Since 1976, the heart of the Community Arts Council has been Studio 2880, located on the traditional unceded territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. Studio 2880 is a cultural landmark in Prince George, housing arts organizations, galleries, and a gift shop featuring locally created artworks. The council offers unique educational programs and services within these facilities, including children's art workshops and arts wellness initiatives.
In addition to Studio 2880, the CAC delivers performing arts programs at prominent venues such as the Knox Performance Centre and the Prince George Playhouse. These venues host a broad range of performances encompassing classical and contemporary dance, music, and theatre, featuring both local talent and touring artists from across Canada.

The Community Arts Council of Prince George and District is recognized for its longstanding commitment to nurturing artistic expression and cultural diversity in Northern British Columbia. It acts as a keystone institution, enhancing the region’s cultural scene and contributing to community development through the arts.
Through its extensive network and programming, the CAC continues to enrich the cultural landscape, making arts accessible and integral to the social and economic health of the Prince George district.
