Theatre Calgary

Theatre Calgary is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting live theatre productions and fostering the performing arts within the Calgary community. Registered under the Canada Revenue Agency as a charitable organization with the business registration number 119214013RR0001, Theatre Calgary operates as a registered charity supporting artistic expression, education, and community engagement through theatre.

History and Mission

Theatre Calgary has a longstanding tradition of enriching the cultural fabric of Calgary by producing a diverse range of theatrical performances. Its mission centers on inspiring and delighting audiences through world-class live theatre, supporting emerging artists, and providing educational programs that benefit the broader community. The organization aims to ensure that live theatre remains accessible and impactful for current and future generations.

Community Engagement and Educational Programs

As part of its commitment to community inclusion, Theatre Calgary donates over 2,500 tickets annually to more than 300 local charitable organizations. This initiative helps extend the reach of live theatre to wider and often underserved audiences, fostering a love for the arts throughout Calgary’s diverse population.

Theatre Calgary’s educational programs engage youth and adult learners to explore theatre arts, providing opportunities for artistic development and community participation. These programs complement their main-stage productions and contribute to the organization’s goal of nurturing the next generation of theatre artists and enthusiasts.

Funding and Endowment

Operating as a nonprofit entity, Theatre Calgary relies significantly on donor contributions and community support to sustain its operations and artistic endeavors. The organization encourages donations to help raise the curtain on each production and support ongoing programming.

To secure its financial future and ensure the sustainability of its cultural offerings, Theatre Calgary established an Endowment Foundation. This fund supplies over $500,000 annually, offering a reliable and flexible source of income that supports artistic productions, educational outreach, and other community initiatives on a perpetual basis.

Impact

Through artistic excellence, community outreach, and education, Theatre Calgary plays a vital role in nurturing Calgary’s cultural landscape. It continues to be a hub for live theatre in the region, inspiring audiences and supporting the growth of performing arts within the community.
