History
Madrona School was initially established in the Arbutus Walk area of Vancouver's Kitsilano neighborhood in 1993. Over the years, the school has relocated several times, with significant moves to the Fairview neighborhood in 2002 and back to Arbutus Walk in 2008. In 2013, it opened a Primary Annex for Kindergarten to Grade 3 before consolidating operations at its current facilities.
Mission and Programs
Madrona School focuses on providing an academically challenging environment that nurtures gifted and exceptional students. The school emphasizes a low student-to-educator ratio, often between 6:1 and 14:1, allowing for personalized learning and support. It offers a nature-based learning approach and includes social-emotional learning and individualized education plans to ensure students reach their potential.
Governance and Leadership
Madrona School is governed by a Board of Directors, which oversees the strategic direction of the school. The Head of School is responsible for the day-to-day operations, supported by a diverse team of educators and administrative staff.
Impact
Madrona School Society creates a close-knit and supportive community of students, families, and educators. It is renowned for fostering a joyful and safe environment that celebrates the unique qualities of its students, empowering them to excel academically and socially. The organization also hosts workshops and events to support neurodiverse students and their families.
Operations
Madrona School operates as a not-for-profit entity, relying on funding and support from its community to maintain its programs and facilities. The organization prides itself on creating a collaborative and flexible work environment that encourages creativity and close relationships between staff, students, and families.
