Central Alberta Victim and Witness Support Society
The Central Alberta Victim and Witness Support Society (registered as Business Number 879420628RR0001) was a nonprofit organization providing support services to victims and witnesses of crime in Alberta, Canada, until its dissolution in 2024. Established in approximately 1999, the society operated for 25 years, offering crisis intervention, court accompaniment, and referrals to community resources[1].

In 2023, the Government of Alberta transitioned to a regionalized victim service model under the Victims of Crime and Public Safety Act, consolidating services into four regional societies[5]. As part of this restructuring, the Central Alberta Victim and Witness Support Society ceased operations on September 1, 2024[1]. Its functions were transferred to the Central Alberta Regional Victim Serving Society (CARVSS), which expanded services across RCMP jurisdictions in the region[2][5].

CARVSS, operational since October 2024, maintains local victim services units while implementing standardized support frameworks province-wide[5]. The transition aimed to address inconsistencies in service delivery and ensure equitable access to crisis support, safety planning, and justice system navigation[5].

Legacy
The society's closure marked the end of a quarter-century of community-based victim advocacy in Central Alberta. Its successor organization continues similar services under the restructured regional model[1][5].
