History

The band was originally formed in 1964 under the sponsorship of the Victoria City Police Athletic Association. Initially known as the Victoria City Police Boys' Band, its members were provided with police-style uniforms for concerts and parades. Over time, the band underwent transformations to include girls, becoming the Victoria City Police Youth Band in the late 1960s. As membership turnover increased and adults were allowed to join, the band changed its name to the Greater Victoria Police Community Band. After losing sponsorship from the Victoria City Police Athletic Association in 1978, it was renamed the Greater Victoria Concert Band.

Structure and Activities

Today, the organization comprises multiple bands, offering opportunities from novice levels to senior bands that feature some of Greater Victoria's best amateur musicians. This structure allows individuals of varying skill levels to participate and contribute to professional-quality live entertainment. The band performs in approximately 10 to 12 concerts annually throughout the Capital Region and beyond.
