RIDGE MEADOWS CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE SOCIETY
A family centered, home and community based pediatric therapy centre
Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre Society
The Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre Society is a Canadian non-profit charitable organization focused on pediatric rehabilitation and behavior support services for children. Established in 1989 by a coalition of parents and professionals, the Society addresses developmental needs in the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows communities in British Columbia. Its mission is to be a dynamic and innovative leader in child development, providing family-centered interventions that promote healthy child development and support children at risk for developmental delays.
History
The organization was founded in 1989 in response to a recognized lack of pediatric rehabilitation and behavioral support services in the local area. Its first location was at St. John the Divine Church on River Road. In 1995, the Society relocated to the former Yennadon Elementary School. Later, in 2006, it moved to a site on Dewdney Trunk Road, where it remained for 12 years. A catastrophic flood in August 2018 prompted another move, leading to its current location at 201-21775 Lougheed Highway, where it continues to serve children and their families with a long-term commitment to the community.
Philosophy and Programs
The Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre Society operates on the philosophy that the family is the most significant influence in a child's life. It actively encourages and supports parents and guardians to be involved in planning and decision-making concerning their child’s intervention and care.
The Society focuses on promoting early intervention for children at risk of developmental delays through timely and effective family-centered services. These programs aim to help children achieve their fullest potential by providing comprehensive rehabilitation and behavior support. The organization values collaboration with families and the community to foster optimal developmental outcomes.
Accreditation and Acknowledgments
The Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre Society is a member of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, ensuring that its services meet high standards in pediatric rehabilitation.
The organization acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia and recognizes that the land on which it operates is the traditional and unceded territory of the q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie) and qw’ʔntl’en (Kwantlen) Peoples.
This summary reflects the Society’s role as a vital resource in the community for supporting children’s development and providing specialized rehabilitation services tailored to the needs of local families since its establishment in 1989[1][2][3].
