The organization was formed following the merger between BowWest Community Resource Centre and Sunrise Community Link, with its official incorporation taking place in May 2022.

History

BowWest Community Resource Centre was established in the Northwest of Calgary in 1999, initially serving the communities of Bowness and Ranchlands. It provided connections to economic, social, and educational opportunities to help residents lead more resilient lives.
Sunrise Community Link, formed in 2000, served residents in the Southeast of Calgary, particularly in the Greater Forest Lawn area, offering basic needs supports, resource navigation, and empowerment programming.

In 2017, these agencies began closer collaboration on several programs, including the Community Resource Centre HUB Initiative. This initiative extended their services to communities in the Northeast and Southwest of Calgary, fostering a deeper partnership as the teams shared ideas and resources.

Recent Developments

In 2023, RISE Calgary expanded its operations by opening an office on Siksika Nation, where it offers tax filing, financial literacy, and coaching services. Over the past three years, the Siksika Nation team has been successful in developing relationships with nation members and other service providers.
