History
Established initially in 1985 to address decreased government funding, the foundation operated independently before merging with Selkirk College in 2006. Following shifts in fundraising strategies, efforts began in 2019 to re-establish the foundation as a separate entity. This process culminated in December 2020 with its reformation as a British Columbia society.
Mission
The Selkirk College Foundation is committed to fostering equal and accessible higher education across its service region. It collaborates closely with donors to ensure that gifts are utilized in alignment with their intentions and vision, reflecting college values of community, access, respect, and excellence. The foundation supports learning by providing essential financial assistance to students and enhancing educational resources.
Impact
In recent years, the foundation has made significant contributions to student welfare. For instance, it has annually supported hundreds of students with financial awards, showcasing its dedication to student success. In 2023, this support manifested in awards distributed to over 480 students, totaling over $500,000.
Activities
The foundation's activities focus on promoting post-secondary education in the region by building partnerships and supporting Selkirk College's priorities. These efforts include enhancing learning environments, updating educational facilities, and funding scholarships and bursaries.
Registration
The Selkirk College Foundation is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency under the business registration number 119144582RR0001, affirming its status as a legitimate charitable organization.
