Hospice Huronia Inc

Overview
Hospice Huronia Inc is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to providing hospice and palliative care services to residents of North Simcoe and surrounding regions. Incorporated in 1994, the organization has been serving its community since 1993, offering compassionate support to individuals facing life-threatening illnesses and to their families. It operates as a public benefit corporation and is registered under the Canadian Revenue Agency with the Business Registration Number 899915243RR0001.

History and Location
Established in 1993 and incorporated the following year, Hospice Huronia serves a broad geographic area including the Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene, Townships of Tay and Tiny, parts of Springwater Township, Beausoleil First Nation, as well as sections of Georgian Bay, Oro Medonte, and Severn Townships.

In April 2020, Hospice Huronia opened Tomkins House, a 5-bed hospice facility providing private rooms equipped with Murphy beds and staffed with 24/7 hospice and palliative nursing care. This facility enhances the organization's capacity to offer in-house specialized end-of-life care[1][2][3].

Services
Hospice Huronia offers non-medical care and emotional support designed to improve quality of life for those with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Services include companionship, respite care, bereavement support, and palliative nursing, which can be provided in various settings such as patients’ homes, hospitals, long-term care homes, or at Tomkins House. The organization complements medical care by focusing on emotional support, comfort, dignity, and hope[3][4].

Funding and Support
The organization’s services are available free of charge, enabled through partial funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care via the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN), alongside donations from individuals, businesses, grants, and fundraising efforts such as the Annual Hike for Hospice[1][2][4].

Partnerships and Innovation
Hospice Huronia participates in innovative partnerships to improve patient care through technology. Notably, it has integrated its information systems with the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s MEDITECH Expanse electronic health record (EHR) system. This collaboration facilitates seamless sharing of patient information between hospitals and hospices, enhancing care coordination, reducing administrative burdens, and improving the overall hospice experience for patients and families[5].

Mission
Hospice Huronia strives to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families confronted with life-limiting illnesses or bereavement by providing compassionate, accessible, and supportive care in the community[4].
