Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent
The Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent (CTC-CK) is a Canadian nonprofit organization providing specialized therapeutic and developmental services to children and youth with physical, developmental, or communication challenges. Registered under Business Number 118979764RR0001, the centre serves over 5,000 individuals annually in the Chatham-Kent region.
History and Mission
Established over 70 years ago, CTC-CK focuses on delivering interventions to help children and youth up to age 21 achieve their developmental potential. Its programs address needs ranging from mobility and communication to sensory processing and behavioral support.
Services
CTC-CK offers outpatient rehabilitation, respite care, and recreational therapy, including:
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy for motor skill development.
- Speech-language pathology and audiology for communication and hearing needs.
- Music therapy, adapted recreation, and respite services to support emotional well-being.
- School-based rehabilitation programs integrated into educational settings.
The centre also operates as a SmartStart Hub, guiding families to local resources and coordinating multidisciplinary care.
Facility Expansion
A new 50,000-square-foot facility is under development to replace the existing structure. Designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects, the building includes:
- Therapeutic spaces: Specialized rooms for physiotherapy, sensory integration, and aquatic therapy.
- Recreational amenities: A gymnasium, therapy pool, and outdoor playgrounds.
- Administrative and partnership areas: Spaces for community collaboration and family support services.
The expansion aims to reduce wait times and improve accessibility for specialized programs.
Community Impact
CTC-CK collaborates with caregivers, educators, and healthcare providers to deliver personalized care. Its Life Links and Behavior Respite Services programs address complex needs, while outreach initiatives prioritize equitable access to early intervention services.
