The YMCA movement began in London, England, in 1844, founded by George Williams as a response to the urban social challenges posed by the Industrial Revolution. This movement rapidly spread internationally and established Canadian branches starting from the mid-19th century. The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, including its branches in cities such as Sudbury and North Bay, has built on this legacy by providing inclusive community support and fostering healthy lifestyles over nearly two centuries.
