The Reading Partnership
Overview

The Reading Partnership is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to improving literacy rates among children and their families, especially in underserved communities. Established in 2011, it focuses on supporting literacy programs in low-income, high-potential areas. The organization is registered as a charity with the Canada Revenue Agency under the business number 727408932RR0001.

Mission and Vision

The Reading Partnership's mission is to build community and foster a love of reading through inclusive, interactive, and evidence-informed literacy programs for children and families. Its vision aims for every child across all communities to possess the literacy skills and self-determination needed to positively impact their world.

Programs and Activities

The organization works closely with local partners and parents to deliver literacy-focused programs. These initiatives include interactive play-based activities, book clubs, and author incubators designed to make reading and writing a part of daily life. By equipping educators and community leaders with literacy tools, The Reading Partnership seeks to close the reading achievement gap.

History and Impact

The Reading Partnership was initially established in response to low literacy rates in Toronto's Kingston-Galloway/Orton Park (KGO) neighborhood, where nearly half of the third-grade students did not meet provincial reading standards. Over a decade, the organization has grown, impacting thousands of vulnerable children and families. It continues to expand its reach across Canada.

Values and Focus

The organization emphasizes the value of every community member's contribution, partnering with families, organizations, and communities to enhance literacy rates. It prioritizes access and representation for marginalized groups, particularly Black families, ensuring that programs celebrate diversity and resilience.
