We are committed to taking an active role in our community to end all forms of violence against women and children. As a sexual assault centre we work with and provide support services to recent as well as historical survivors of sexual assault sexual harassment and childhood sexual abuse and their families. OSHAWA-DURHAM RAPE CRISIS CENTRE
October 18th is Persons Day in Canada, marking the day in 1929 when the historic decision to include women in the legal definition of “persons” was handed down by Canada’s highest court of appeal. This gave some women the right to be appointed to the Senate of Canada and paved the way for women's increased participation in public and political life. Though this decision did not include all women, such as Indigenous women and women of Asian heritage and descent, it did mark critical progress in the advancement of gender equality in Canada.

Did you know that up to 75% of women who experience intimate partner violence (IPV) also experience brain injury. Brain injury caused by IPV became a shadow pandemic, exacerbating the conditions that put women at risk of experiencing violence, often leading to brain injury. Research on this subject matter calls for wider knowledge sharing throughout communities, as so many come into contact with those who experience IPV.
