Fort Macleod Kids First Family Centre

Fort Macleod Kids First Family Centre is a Canadian nonprofit grassroots organization dedicated to supporting families and children in Fort Macleod and the surrounding areas. Established in 2000, the centre serves as a community hub providing various programs and services aimed at promoting the healthy development of children and supporting caregivers within the community.

Mission and Vision

The centre operates under a clear mission: to provide programs and support to ensure the healthy growth of children and families. Its vision is that all children and families have equitable access to community supports and services.

Core Pillars

Fort Macleod Kids First Family Centre bases its work on four foundational pillars:

  • Enhancing participation of children and families in education, recreation, and the arts.
  • Supporting food security among families.
  • Promoting healthy early childhood development.
  • Supporting caregivers, including parents and guardians.
Programs and Services

Offering a broad range of community support, the centre provides:

  • Subsidies for children and youth up to $100 per year per child to facilitate participation in local organized arts and recreational programs.
  • Youth development programs aimed at promoting growth and engagement.
  • Indigenous outreach to support the well-being of Indigenous children, youth, and families.
  • In-home visitation services providing caregiver support, parent education, and child development guidance.
  • Thrifty Kitchen programming focused on shopping and cooking skills to enhance family nutrition.
  • Triple-P Parenting programs which teach life skills to parents and caregivers.
Community Role

The centre is the hub of the West Corridor Family Resource Network, collaborating closely with the South Region Parents as Teachers Affiliate and the Pincher Creek Family Centre. This network extends support across Granum, Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, and the Crowsnest Pass areas, enhancing regional family resources and services.
