Its work focuses on supporting independent professional dance artists and fostering a vibrant contemporary dance community.

Mission and Activities

Kinetic Studio is focused on nurturing spaces where artists can explore, create, and grow with an emphasis on equity, justice, and respect. The organization is deeply embedded in the cultural landscape of Mi’kma’ki, acknowledging the Mi'kmaq people as the traditional caretakers of the land. Commitment to Equity and Inclusion

Kinetic Studio has taken a significant leadership role in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the local and broader arts community. The organization has been active in fostering dialogue and action around social justice issues impacting the arts. For example, in 2021, Kinetic produced "Marking this Mo(ve)ment," a four-day symposium dedicated to exploring EDI challenges and opportunities in Nova Scotia’s dance sector. This event included panel discussions and workshops that aimed to build capacity among artists and organizations to continue anti-oppression work collaboratively.

Recognition and Support

As a registered charitable organization committed to education in the arts, particularly theatre and dance, the Kinetic Studio Society has received support from various arts councils and funding bodies. Its work is recognized for maintaining continuity and innovation even during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting to meet the evolving needs of its community.

Kinetic Studio Society remains an influential and dynamic presence fostering contemporary dance in Canada, with a steadfast focus on artistic excellence and social responsibility.
