Established to ensure the financial sustainability of Banff Centre, the Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting the centre’s mission as a global leader in arts, culture, and creativity.
Overview
The Banff Centre Foundation oversees the investment and stewardship of Banff Centre’s endowment funds with a focus on accountability, transparency, and fiscal prudence. Its board follows the Golden Rule of Endowment Management, which mandates that spending from the endowment should not exceed the total return minus inflation, thereby preserving the real value of the capital. The Foundation determines annual cash distributions to Banff Centre during the budget development cycle, considering the centre’s operational needs, endowment performance, and regulatory requirements under the Income Tax Act.
Financial statements of the Foundation are published annually and have been integrated into Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity’s annual reports since 2017. The Foundation’s management guidelines apply to all endowment funds held for the benefit of Banff Centre, including those managed in partnership with the Banff Canmore Community Foundation.
