At 11am on May 15th, 1919, the Winnipeg General Strike officially began. Thousands of organized workers answered the Winnipeg Trades and Labour Council’s call, and thousands of unorganized workers joined them. By collectively withdrawing their labour, they brought the city to a standstill in support of the building trades’ demands for decent work and wages.
