City Centre Care Society
The City Centre Care Society (CCCS) was a nonprofit organization registered in Canada (Business Registration Number: 871524765RR0001) focused on providing residential health programs and social services to vulnerable populations in Vancouver, British Columbia. Established in 1907, it operated for over a century before merging with Providence Living in December 2022.
History
Initially founded to address the healthcare needs of Vancouver’s marginalized inner-city residents, CCCS expanded its services to include complex medical care, addiction recovery programs, and seniors’ assisted living. It managed two downtown facilities: Central City Lodge (opened in 1993) and Cooper Place. The society’s operations were formally transferred to Providence Living in late 2022, preserving its legacy of community care[1][3].
Services
CCCS specialized in:
- Long-term care: Providing 24-hour nursing support, rehabilitation services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy), and medical supervision for adults with complex health needs[4][1].
- Addiction recovery: Operating the Emerge Addiction Recovery Program (ARP), a licensed initiative offering structured support through Vancouver Coastal Health’s referral system[1][2].
- Assisted living: Delivering housing and personalized care services for seniors and individuals requiring supervised living arrangements[2][4].
Facilities
- Central City Lodge: A seven-story facility housing 100 long-term care beds and 22 addiction recovery beds, staffed by registered nurses, psychiatric nurses, and care aides[1][4].
- Cooper Place: A secondary site offering similar programs, though specific capacity details are less documented[2][5].
Merger and Legacy
Following its merger with Providence Living, CCCS’s facilities and programs integrated into Providence’s network while retaining their original mandates. The transition ensured continuity of care for residents, reflecting CCCS’s decades-long commitment to Vancouver’s underserved communities[1][3].
